Hundreds of Riau College Students Hold Rallies

Pekanbaru- Celebration of the 2016 International Anti-Corruption Day in Riau tinged rallies of the Executive Students’ Association throughout Riau on Sudirman Street, Friday 9^th December. In action, the students urge KPK to have an office in Riau. Mass also requires clarification from Governor of Riau related to corruption of oil and gas, and revoke companies’ licenses that open peat lands in Riau Province. Then, asked the KPK, Riau Police Chief and Riau High Court to conduct an investigation into state apparatus related to a corruption act in the company’s forests and peat lands burner.

Field coordinator action told that Indonesia is the sixth most corrupt country in the world and the first in Asia. It is very embarrassing for Indonesia. Beside, Riau include in the six provinces have been closely watched by the KPK. This is because a lot of governmental institutions in Riau that indicated corruption but handling is so slow.

Great An-Nur Mosque

An-Nur mosque is one of great mosque in Pekanbaru city. It looks like Taj Mahal in India. So, people say that An-Nur mosque is Indonesia Taj Mahal. It is located on Hang Tuah Street, Pekanbaru. It was built on 1963 during Kaharudin Nasution leadership as Riau governor. And the next governor was Arifin Ahmad announced the mosque officially.

It has changed from original building. Originally, it was about 4 Ha. But on 2000, the mosque was expanded reaching up to 12,6 Ha and accommodate up to 3000 worshipers. When people see outside of the mosque, there is a pool that completed by a fountain. Usually, a mosque will be used as praying place. But actually, some buildings also became a campus of Fakultas Ushuluddin Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Sultan Syarif Kasim.

To make worshipers feel more comfortable, it’s the mosque’s staff serve some facilities such as secretariat office for management staff, Islam learning room, and also free Wi-Fi for students. So, it has been famous building and great mosque in Pekanbaru.

Discussion

I have been thinking if official of University of Riau (UNRI) changes to be acronym UR is not necessary.

I think we should change abbreviation of University of Riau, UNRI to be acronym UR, because we know, we received a letter to wrong address. Actually, the letter had to be sent to UNSRI. UNRI and UNSRI only have difference of a single letter. It can make other mistakes again. So, to anticipate it, we should change UNRI to be UR.

But other side, change of name is not necessary. I believe that UNRI should be retained, and we do not use UR again because it is somewhat awkward to pronounce. Addition, people are more familiar with UNRI. So, we do no need to spend time to discuss about change of name.
